About Us

The Mile High Youth Flag Football League(YFFL) was founded in 2023. This league was created as an effort to offer a competitive flag football league option for organizations throughout Colorado that want to focus on building football readiness while student-athletes prepare to transition into tackle football. This league is created by youth coaches who are also leveraging the insights of former college and NFL professionals.

Our mission is to provide a fun, safe, and competitive environment where youth can learn and develop the skills necessary to play flag football, while also preparing them for a smooth transition into tackle football. We are committed to creating a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Our league rules and structure will prepare our athletes to excel in tackle football and beyond

The Mile High YFFL strives to provide structure unlike any other flag league in the state that provides players, teams, parents, and all other stakeholders with a real football experience that will build the foundation for young athletes to thrive as they grow older. The inaugural season will be for kids ages 6-7 and there could be future consideration to add an 8-year-old level, a 4-5 level, and an all-girls division.

2023 Participant Details

Age Requirements: Participants in the Mile High YFFL must meet the minimum age requirements in order to be eligible to play. The age requirements for the league are as follows:

  • Players must be between the ages of 6 and 7 years old to participate in the league. There are exceptions to 5-year-olds participating upon request.

  • Players who turn 8 years old during the season will not be allowed to play in the league(October 31st deadline)

The age of the participant will be determined by their age as of the first day of the season.

Players who do not meet the age requirements will not be allowed to participate in the league, regardless of their skill level or experience. This is to ensure a safe and fair playing environment for all participants. It is important for parents and guardians to accurately report the participant's age during the registration process.

Failure to provide accurate information may result in the participant being ineligible to play or disqualified from the league. The National Sports ID will be used to verify age as well as birth certificates. If a participant's age is found to be misrepresented, they will be disqualified from the league. Your team will be required to forfeit games they participated in and your team could be disqualified from the league as well. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that all participants meet the age requirements for the league.

How this league is structured to prepare for the transition to tackle

  • 8 players per team on the field: Many of the current flag options allow for 5 or fewer players on the field per team and do not include a Center/QB exchange

  • Down and distance marker: Many of the current flag leagues use cones and premarked lines to determine first downs. The Mile High YFFL will use a down and distance marker to build player knowledge of real football rules

  • Competitive environment: Some flag football leagues prioritize sportsmanship over competitiveness, but the Mile High YFFL values both equally. Our league strives to provide a high-quality experience that is both fun and competitive while promoting good sportsmanship among players

  • Coaching Feedback: The Mile High YFFL plans to maintain communication with coaches both during and after the season to receive input on how the league can improve and better cater to the needs of players who are transitioning into tackle football

  • College and NFL Athlete Committee: The Mile High YFFL aims to maintain the quality of the league and support player growth by seeking feedback from both former College and NFL players regarding their experiences and recommendations for improvement in transitioning to tackle football
